Several weeks ago, we sent state employees an e-mail asking for input on how the state can cut costs during what is expected to be yet another year of difficult budget decisions for the Legislature.

We couldn’t be happier with your response. We have received nearly 7,500 responses. We’d like to thank each and every one of you for the thought and effort put into each suggestion we received.

As promised, your responses to us were anonymous. Please be assured that, if you responded to our initial e-mail, we received your response. We greatly appreciate your suggestions and have since directed staff to sort through your ideas and compile them in a report we can use when working on our state budget. Many of you said we could share your ideas. We will be sharing those suggestions with our fellow legislators and others who can help us follow through on this important and valuable endeavor.

We’re confident that your suggestions for how to make state government leaner will help us cut unnecessary costs across state agencies while preserving the core value that each agency brings to the taxpayers of our state.

Thanks again for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Senator Joseph Zarelli                                                          Senator Margarita Prentice
